When cold and flu season hits, elderberry is the herb everyone suddenly remembers. But at Phodiso Botanicals, we keep it in rotation year round,  because prevention is always better than cure. Our dried elderberries are wildcrafted and carefully dried to lock in maximum potency, giving you one of nature’s most powerful immune supporting berries in its most versatile form.

Benefits:

• Immune defence: Packed with antioxidants and vitamin C that actively support your immune system’s ability to fight off viruses and bacteria
• Cold & flu relief: Clinical studies suggest elderberry can reduce the duration and severity of colds and flu when taken at onset
• Anti-inflammatory: Natural flavonoids, particularly anthocyanins, give elderberry its deep purple colour and its powerful anti-inflammatory action
• Respiratory support: Traditionally used to ease congestion, coughs, and upper respiratory infections
• Antioxidant protection:  One of the highest antioxidant-rated berries, helping protect cells from daily oxidative stress and premature ageing
• Heart health: Supports healthy cholesterol levels and blood pressure through regular consumption
• Gut health: Natural fibre content supports digestive regularity and a balanced gut microbiome

How to use:

As a syrup (most popular):

1. Combine 1 cup dried elderberries with 3 cups water and bring to a boil
2. Reduce heat and simmer for 45 minutes until liquid reduces by half
3. Cool, strain, and mix with 1 cup raw honey
4. Store in the fridge and take 1 tablespoon daily for maintenance or 1 tablespoon every 2–3 hours when sick.

As a tea:

1. Add 1 tablespoon of dried elderberries to 2 cups of water
2. Simmer for 15 minutes, strain, and enjoy
3. Add ginger, cloves, or cinnamon for extra immune power

⚠️ Important: Always cook elderberries before consumption. Raw elderberries contain compounds that can cause nausea. Cooking neutralises this completely.
